Afro-Feminist Futures Lab

A Digital Home for Black Feminist Thought, Dialogue, and Reimagination of Liberated Futures

About Us

Afro Feminist Futures Lab (AFFL) is a digital hub that documents, democratises, and redefines how African Feminist knowledge is created, shared, preserved, and experienced. We make complex intersectional feminist theories accessible and engaging, bridging scholarship with lived experience and imagination. Through dialogues, essays, art, stories, films, and other creative forms, we build spaces where Black Feminists think together, dream together, and continue the unfinished work of our foremothers in re-imagining our collective futures. As an unapologetically intersectional feminist organization, we exist to produce and amplify knowledge, spark conversations that challenge oppressive norms, and build an accessible, living archive for the next generation of thinkers, organizers, and dreamers.

Mission

Our mission is to organise, re-educate, and build power with marginalised people using Feminist frameworks as our tool to dismantle all systems of oppression and advance our collective liberation across the continent and diaspora. We work to arm communities with accessible, creative and transformative knowledge that disrupts patriarchal and conservative propaganda while empowering oppressed classes. We aim to raise the political consciousness of every Black child, nurturing a generation equipped to imagine, build, and sustain a Feminist future.

Vision

We envision a world where all Black people, in our full intersectional diversities, live free from systemic violence—with safety, dignity, and autonomy. A world where material resources are equitable, no community is marginalised, and our societies grounded in care, community, and non-violent, restorative justice. A world where feminist futures are no longer imagined, but practiced in our homes, systems, and collective lives.

Values

An African Feminist Community

Community

We center Black African Feminist voices and build spaces where everyone is seen, heard, and valued. Our work is grounded in intersectional inclusion, representation, and shared power through knowledge production and distribution.

An African Supportive Community for women

Care

We practice solidarity, accountability, and collective wellbeing in everything we do. We honour compassion, shared responsibility, and the dignity of every woman and gender-diverse person.

Liberating African women

Liberation

We choose courage, imagination, and resistance as tools for freedom, using technology, storytelling, and Feminist futurism to reimagine what’s possible.

Growth

Growth

We learn, unlearn, adapt, and evolve with our communities as our compass. We embrace curiosity, joy, and integrity as fuel for transformation and sustainable Feminist futures.
